  5. LabelMaker is a simple utility that will print 5 or 6 lines of text to the
  6. currently selected printer (as long as it is not a LaserWriter).  This text is
  7. sent to the printer directly as ASCII text to bypass the speed constraints of
  8. sending graphic information.
  9.  
  10. LabelMaker is a desk accessory; to use it you must install it with the Font/DA
  11. Mover (version 3.2 or greater).  After installing it, "LabelMaker" should
  12. appear under your apple menu.
  13.  
  14. ---Usage Notes
  15.  
  16. 1)  When LabelMaker first starts up, it checks to see what the current printer
  17. is; if the printer is a LaserWriter or AppleTalk ImageWriter, special notes are
  18. displayed in a dialog box.
  19.  
  20. 2)  If you wish to change the current printer designation while LabelMaker is
  21. opened, select the Chooser (and the Control Panel if necessary).  These desk
  22. accessories will work together with no problem.
  23.  
  24. 3)  When printing to an ImageWriter II, you may wish to select the "NLQ" mode
  25. option for a higher quality print.  This option may be selected with other
  26. printers connected, but it won't serve any purpose unless the printer in
  27. question recognizes the "<Esc>a2" string used by the ImageWriter II for this
  28. mode.
  29.  
  30. 4)  There are options for printing to two different sizes of labels, namely 1"
  31. (standard envelope labels) and 2.5" (standard shipping labels).  To select
  32. these options, click on the buttons to the right of the text boxes.
  33.  
  34. 5)  "Return" and "Tab" will move the cursor down to the next text entry box,
  35. and when used with the shift key these keys will cause the cursor to move
  36. backwards to the previous text entry box.
  37.  
  38. 6)  Command-M will center the text on the longest line; this can be un-done by
  39. typing Command-M once again.  This command will toggle centering on and off
  40. with successive attempts.  As a side effect, any text line that begins with
  41. leading spaces will be left justified at the first non-space character if
  42. 'centering' is turned off.
  43.  
  44. ---Known Limitations
  45.  
  46. 1)  When printing 1" labels, only 5 lines will print; the sixth line is ignored
  47. (there isn't room on the label for it).
  48.  
  49. 2)  No more than 50 labels can be printed at a time.
  50.  
  51. 3)  There seems to be a "feature" associated with the AppleTalk Imagewriter
  52. low-level ASCII streaming driver such that if the printer is currently in use,
  53. the driver will "time-out" and ignore the print request.  This can cause the
  54. loss of some or all of the imformation being printed.
  55.  
  56. 4)  For some unknown reason LabelMaker responds very slowly when used while
  57. WayStation 2.3 is running.  This is the only application that this has been
  58. noticed with.
